Why Ratri

What Makes the Difference in Watch Care

There are many places in Bangkok where a watch can be left for service. We would like to explain clearly what sets Ratri's approach apart.

Six Reasons Clients Come to Us

Mechanical Specialisation

We work only on mechanical movements — manual and automatic — and bring focused knowledge to that specific kind of work.

Nothing Hidden

Condition notes, findings, part replacements — everything is communicated before it happens. You are never presented with a surprise bill.

Originality Respected

Patina and wear marks are preserved by default. We do not polish, refinish, or alter cosmetics without a clear conversation with you first.

Documented Service

Every watch receives a condition record. Restoration projects receive a full work log that travels with the watch when it is collected.

Timing Measured Properly

Movement performance is measured across positions after every service, not simply reassembled and assumed to be running well.

Clear, Fixed Pricing

Service prices are listed and explained upfront. Any additional costs for parts or unexpected work are quoted separately before proceeding.

Expertise

Years Spent on Mechanical Calibres

Our watchmaker has worked on mechanical movements for over a decade, across a wide range of Swiss and Japanese calibres. That depth of experience means less guesswork and more reliable results — particularly on older movements where knowledge of the specific calibre makes a real difference to the outcome.

  • Swiss ébauche and signed calibres
  • Japanese-made movements, vintage and contemporary
  • Manual-wind and automatic mechanisms

The specific knowledge required to service a 1960s manual-wind calibre differs meaningfully from that needed for a modern automatic. We do not treat all movements as interchangeable — each one is approached with reference to what is known about it.

Intake, assessment, service, timing check, case reassembly, and final review — each step follows from the last in a considered order. Nothing is skipped to speed things along.

Process

A Considered Order of Work

Each service follows a structured sequence that begins with careful assessment and ends with measured performance verification. We do not estimate timing by feel or reassemble without checking the result. The process is the same for every watch that comes in, regardless of its value or age.

  • Written condition note at intake
  • Component-by-component assessment during disassembly
  • Post-service timing verification on machine

Client Experience

Kept Informed at Every Stage

Leaving a watch for service involves a degree of trust. We take that seriously by communicating clearly at each stage — from the initial assessment note to any findings during the service itself. If the scope of work changes, you hear about it before we proceed, not after.

  • Reachable by phone or email during business hours
  • Notified before any unexpected work is added
  • Collection discussion arranged at a time that suits you

We respond to enquiries within one to two working days. If you have questions while a watch is with us, we will answer them directly — not with a form response.

A service that does the job properly should last several years before the movement needs attention again. We aim for that outcome, not a quick fix that brings the watch back in six months.

Value

Priced for the Work, Not for the Name

Our service fees reflect the time and materials the work actually requires. They are listed clearly so you know what to expect. If your watch needs more than the standard service covers — unusual parts, additional movement attention — we quote that separately and you decide how to proceed.

  • No hidden fees or unexplained additions
  • Part costs quoted before replacement
  • Assessment fee credited toward any follow-on service

How We Compare

Ratri vs. Typical Service Options

This comparison is not about criticism — it is simply about clarity, so you know what to look for when choosing where to take a mechanical watch.

Typical Service Options

  • Price not confirmed until collection
  • Cosmetic changes made without discussion
  • No written record of work performed
  • Timing not verified after reassembly
  • Same lubricant applied to all parts
  • Limited communication during the wait

The Ratri Approach

  • Price confirmed at intake or before any additions
  • Cosmetics discussed with you before any change
  • Written record provided with every watch
  • Timing measured across positions post-service
  • Component-appropriate lubricants throughout
  • Reachable by phone and email during your wait

What Makes Us Different

Distinctive Features of Our Service

Restoration Work Done Collaboratively

For sentimental or older watches, we treat the restoration as a conversation rather than a set task. Each cosmetic or structural decision is made with you — not assumed on your behalf.

Assessment Before Commitment

Our Service & Assessment is designed so you can understand a watch's condition without immediately committing to a full overhaul. The assessment fee applies toward any service you then choose.

Honest Condition Reporting

If a watch does not need the service you requested, we will say so. We do not perform unnecessary work to fill an invoice. A clear condition note is the foundation of everything we do.

A Real Workshop, Not a Drop-Box

Your watch is worked on at our Bang Rak workshop, by the same small team throughout. It is not sent somewhere else, passed between third parties, or held in a queue at a distant facility.
